VANCOUVER (SBP) \u2013 For the tenth straight season, Not The Riders have won the Grey Cup. This time it was a 32-21 victory over the Calgary Stampeders at Vancouver\u2019s BC Place.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt has been an amazing streak!\u201d said Not The Riders head coach as he wore a jacket with a leaping Tiger emblazoned across the chest, \u201cI don\u2019t know how many other teams can win this many championships in a row!\u201d<\/p>\n
Not The Riders are close to matching their record championship streak of 12 set between the years of 1977 and 1988 when they clearly dominated the CFL Map. Their only blemishes in the past 35 years came in 1966, 1968, 1969, 1973, 1976, and 1989 when Saskatchewan or Ottawa won the championships in those years.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is how it\u2019s done baby!\u201d cheered Not The Riders quarterback Danny McManus, \u201cWe showed we are the best again! And I am guaranteeing another championship next year!\u201d<\/p>\n
Such a prediction is not necessarily a bold one.<\/p>\n
With only one Rider team left in the CFL, Not The Riders have virtually no competition heading into next season. Saskatchewan is coming off a 3-15 record and doesn\u2019t seem to pose any challenge to Not The Riders at any point for the next few years.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s really too bad,\u201d jeered a sarcastic Not The Riders player, \u201cI guess we\u2019ll just keep on drinking from this cup. WOO HOO!\u201d<\/p>\n
Questionable management, staffing and coaching decisions have plagued the Saskatchewan Roughriders for the past 10 years. Despite this ineptitude, one anomaly occurred in 1997 when the Riders used smoke and mirrors to make the Grey Cup in Edmonton. However, reality kicked in when they were soundly beaten 47-23 by Doug Flutie and the Not The Riders.<\/p>\n
\u201cYeah,\u201d remembers former 1997 Not The Riders outstanding player Doug Flutie, \u201cThat was a close one. For the first half of the game anyway.\u201d<\/p>\n
Not The Riders started the game strong, quickly staking themselves to a 21-0 halftime lead. Despite a short lived comeback in the third quarter, the Not The Riders offense made a couple of quick strikes to wide receiver Darren Flutie to ice the game early in the fourth quarter.<\/p>\n
\u201cWell, maybe next year the Riders can come back and challenge us,\u201d said Not The Riders defensive lineman, \u201cYou never know. If they get the right mix of players and coaches, hey maybe they can challenge for the cup!\u201d <\/p>\n
There was then a moment of suppressed silence in the locker room followed by an outburst of hearty laughter among media and players.<\/p>\n
