Provincial NDP To Go On Strike During Election Campaign |
REGINA (SBP) — After seeing their polling numbers dip below 30% for the first time in the party’s history, the Saskatchewan NDP are planning a wildcat strike of all current MLA’s and staffers as a strategy to win the upcoming provincial election. The job action is meant to send a message to the voting public of what they will lose if they don’t vote NDP.
“This is our window of opportunity to demonstrate the people of Saskatchewan just how much we love the province,” said NDP leader Dwang Lingensplicer, “It is, in no way, a sign of desperation for attention and/or legitimacy.”
The strike comes on the heels of a recent poll that shows the provincial opposition in a 30-point deficit in the polls; their largest public opinion hole in decades. After seeing this desperate situation, the NDP decided to follow the union arm of the party and attack the public through denial of service.
“Yes, we saw this as our window of opportunity,” said a party spokesperson, “This would be the time where the strike would have the greatest impact on public opinion and have them run to us for the safety and security we provide.
“Imagine how scared the public would be without us to look after them. Well, this MLA strike is a taste of what would happen without this safety and security. It’s a strategy that worked for the unions. Everyone loved to be reminded how important unions are when they withheld various services all summer.”
Past strategies like disrupting school years, stopping snowplows during an impending blizzard and withholding insurance payouts for farmers were sure fire attention getters for the provincial unions. The striking campaign reached it’s apex when provincial unions hired Vancouver rioters to win public support (See Related Story).
The MLA campaign strike campaign is also seen as environmentally friendly. With less printers killing trees to provide pamphlets, billboards, and placards, the NDP hope to show that they are the place to turn to to save Mother Earth. The strike is also seen as socially responsible as the lack of candidates on the ballot will save people from having to think about who to vote for.
“This really does show that the NDP cares about my needs,” said a Saskatchewan Voter, “The only thing that really confuses me is that, with the lack of candidates on the ballot, I thought the NDP were pro choice.”
Added another voter: “The only thing that really bugs me about the NDP strike is that I will be cheated out of the opportunity of voting against them because they will be walking the picket line.”
The Provincial NDP plan on being on strike for as long as it takes, even if it runs past the election on November 7. This will assuredly show Saskatchewan how the party plans on successfully governing the province.
